World Red Cross Red Crescent Day
The Red Cross provides humanitarian and disaster relief wherever and whenever it’s needed – and today is World Red Cross Red Crescent Day. This film shows the history of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement from Henry Dunant and the Battle of Solferino through to today.
World Red Cross Red Crescent Day is intended to recognize worldwide efforts toward disaster relief and the relief of human suffering. Today also puts a special focus on Red Cross “programs that keep children healthy and safe around the globe.” Today the collective efforts of the National Red Cross, the Red Crescent Societies worldwide, and their millions of volunteers around the globe are recognized.
National Relief Charities wishes to recognize and express our thankfulness for the partnership we have with the Black Hills Chapter of the American Red Cross in Rapid City, South Dakota. Together, we have responded to several disaster relief emergencies on the American Indian Reservations in the northern Plains such as blizzards that left Pine Ridge and Cheyenne River Reservations without power for weeks. National Relief Charities also voluntary conforms to the Red Crescent Society Code of Ethics.
