Student & Freelance Writer
Hello, my name is Tristan Picotte and I’m a guest blogger for Partnership With Native Americans. After graduating with honors from Maricopa High School in Phoenix, Ariz., I began attending The School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, South Dakota. Currently in my junior year, I am studying electrical engineering and serving as Treasurer for AISES (American Indian Science & Engineering Society) on campus. In 2014, I was fortunate to be a winner of the Young Native Writers Essay Contest sponsored by the NIEA to encourage critical thinking about Native heritage and help students demonstrate their talents. Through this, I won a $2,500 scholarship and Indian Country Today, South Dakota PBS, Environmental Health News and other news outlets published my article. I grew up on the Cheyenne River Reservation in Eagle Butte, S.D., and had a traditional upbringing. I am passionate about education, environmental concerns and Native culture, and I push myself to grow every day.
