Native Vote: The People Speak

There’s a lot of focus right now on the Native Vote.  We blogged about this after Chaske Spencer of Twilight fame came out as a spokesperson for NCAI and Rock the Vote to encourage more Native Americans to register and vote.  We noticed a mixed reaction to the blog post – encouragement and indifference – among our Facebook fans. Comments ranged from our nation is changing and we must make our voices heard to save what is left of our heritage… to it is every citizen’s right to vote and frustrating when the electoral college controls the vote… to if there is even the slightest chance I can share my voice I want to do it… to I don’t vote because it doesn’t matter but maybe I’m wrong. All of these sentiments are valid and understood, but with the mixed reaction, we think the Native vote is worth revisiting.

Several new videos have come out with Native Elders and other tribal members giving their views on the Native vote. Two are featured here. We hope they are informative. Folks concerned about losing control of their votes to the electoral districts may also wish to visit Electorate.me for more information about making your voice heard.
