#STARTARYOT: If you could help A Native American, would you?

STARTARYOT# - If you could help 1 - IMG_1556Have you heard about the #STARTARYOT contest that is running on Crowdrise from now through September 24, 2013? It’s a fundraising challenge among 501(c)3 nonprofits in the U.S. and foreign countries. The top three charities receiving the most donations will receive additional funding ($75,000 or $50,000 or $25,000) from the contest sponsors. This is much needed funding for every charity – but for some more than others.

By sharing this on all of your social pages, you will be doing your part to ensure that more people know about the contest and have a chance to do their part. Encourage them to share it with their friends too.

STARTARYOT# - If you could help 2 - Huskie DedmanWe want to believe that, if more people knew about the dire challenges faced by the Native Americans who are still living on the reservations, more people would help. These are seniors living below poverty level, many without telephones or transportation. They are grandparents raising grandkids in isolated communities cut off from stores, healthcare, and other people.

We want to believe that if more people knew, more people would care. We might be wrong about this. We hope we’re not.

Yet we have to wonder…
… because, typically, philanthropy doesn’t support Native American causes
… because, historically, 99% of the billions given to charity does not address Native concerns
… because we cared less about Native Americans in the past decade and let giving fall to 3/10 of 1%
… because we under-acknowledge and underserve the very minority with the highest need in the U.S.
… because, when the media covers disasters, affected tribes often go unmentioned
… because, we give generously to Third World projects but don’t realize there’s a Third World in the U.S.
… because oppressive policies continue against tribes and our treaty obligations continue unmet
… because some tribes are unrecognized as tribes and barred from federal assistance, even though they inhabited these lands centuries before anyone else

STARTARYOT - If you could help 3

We could go on… And thus, we have to ask:  If you could help a Native American today, would you?

Show us you care by sharing the link and supporting our goal to feed Native American grandparents like Bill W. and Huskie. Let them know they matter to you by giving the gift of food.

(Contest Rule:  All gifts must go through the Donate Now button on our #STARTARYOT contest page. Per the sponsors, giving through other channels or portals will not count toward the contest.)
