Champion for Healthy Kids

I have some good news: National Relief Charities was selected as a Champion for Healthy Kids in the 2011 grant awards by General Mills. This grant comes from a collaboration by the General Mills Foundation, the American Dietetic Association Foundation, and the President’s Council on Physical Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition.

General Mills is committed to supporting healthy lifestyles for youth, and each year they award $10,000 to 50 programs that can:

  1. Help promote increased physical activity and good nutrition among youth, and
  2. Reach out to children from diverse racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

White Mountain Apache Reservation

National Relief Charities does both, and I am pleased that our proposal for a project on the Crow Creek Indian Reservation was selected from almost 1,100 other proposals to General Mills. The youth on this reservation suffer from high rates of diabetes and obesity.  We expect that our project will have a positive impact on community health and hope to replicate it in other communities next year.

Our program team has already started developing this healthy living project, which will launch in the fall when school starts. We will be posting updates on our progress here, on NRC’s Facebook wall, and on General Mills’ Facebook wall.

At a young age, we should already introduce our kids to healthy living. We should all start by giving them fruits snack perhaps or vegetables during meal time.

We offer books to children to teach them a healthy lifestyle. We do seminars and workshop here also! Just visit our website http://www.academyforhealthsuperheroes.com
